Mechanicsburg, PA—Thursday’s night fixture between Eagle FC and Virginia Marauders was filled with plenty of action ending the game with a 3-1 win.
Eagle FC had a bit of a slow start but that was short lived as the offense kicked into action. Alex Murphy had some great runs and service into the box but no one was able to get on the end of them. Half way through the half Eagle FC was awarded a penalty after there was a hand ball in the box. Meg Tate stepped up to the spot however the Marauders goalkeeper made the save keeping them in the match. Towards the end of the half Nia Christopher would break the deadlock after beating her defender and slotting the ball past the goalkeeper putting Eagle FC up 1-0 to end the half.
In the second half Eagle FC picked up right where they left off getting awarded another penalty. Annika Huhta was fouled in the box and then stepped up to take it. The goalkeeper had no chance as it was filled with plenty of power and well placed. Nikayla Small would also find the back of the net with a beautiful left foot strike in the upper left corner in her last kick of the game before being subbed off putting Eagle FC up 3-0.
The defense had yet another solid performance. Goalkeeper Malene Nielsen had a phenomenal game having to make several crucial saves to keep the team ahead. Defender Phoebe Hollin had a great goal line clearance keeping Eagles ahead. Unfortunately the team was unable to keep the clean sheet conceding their first goal of the 2024 Season.
Eagle FC continue their road 4 game road trip against Charlottesville Blues FC on Saturday at St. Anne’s-Belfield School at 7:00pm.
